Red Umbrella - Balancing Act

She says there’s clouds in the sky

And when it rains we’ll go outside

Although we’re as smart and refined

As all the world’s great books combined

She says my coat is the best

And thinks that it will stand the test of time

I am so unlike the rest of those

So improperly dressed

Her umbrella is deep red

She holds it over both our heads

Though we could be warm in her bed

She walks me to the bus instead

She looks down and starts to cry

I kiss the teardrops from her eye

She says it’s hard to say goodbye

She feels depressed and so do I
